Below these Toranas ,the lord rests ,while proceeding towards the Narendra pond for boating in chandan Yatra and enjoys the dance of his devotees and Maharis(temple dancers) listens the beautiful songs sang by the Pandas (Priests ) mostly from the GitaGovinda written by JayaDev. It creates shivering and thril . To experience this one need to present there phisically and believe me it is just out of the world, awesome experience ,one will treasure it through out life.....
Avada- Cooked in jagannath's own kitchen feeds thousands of people every day. It is said that nobody in Puri remains empty stomach. Even lord Jagannath comes to feed them in disguise if found anybody is left with out food.........If he can't do it for some resons then he used to instruct his devotees and even shows the way to reach that hungry soul and to feed them. Many has experienced it in real life.....................
This particular snacks made up of Sugar, Maida and Ghee is very popular all over India. The same stuff is available inside temple also .But here it is quite cheap and qualitywise same as available inside temple.
Here one can find the variety of art forms of Orissa and these shops are reflections of Orissa's art and sculpture and it's rich culture. From stone sculpture to wooden dolls, paintings on cloth , sculptures made up of horn, chandan wood, conch, brass, silver filigree work, orissa rich tie and dye sambalpuri cloths and very tastefully woven bomkai and sonpuri pata sarees are plentily available around this temple only.........................
Aruna Stambha...the entrance to the temple
Hope you enjoyed this visual trip to Jagannath Puri.

Dear Usha,
You can't go to the Garbha griha as it has been closed . The temple is getting ruined day by day.Only the out side sculptures are visible......But the location and the only surviving beautiful idol of navagraha in a single stone is worth watching....

Dear Roba,

Orissa Silk sarees ( pata saree) are very famous and in quality so good that usually like jewelry it passes from one generation to the other. Now they are getting very costly starting from Rs.5000 onwards....

Swayam..it is a Purandara Dasa Song in Kannada. Calling out to Lord Krishna to come soon...BTW...when we think of Orissa..we think immediately of Puri Jagannath or the Sun Temple ( my dream to visit the Sun Temple. Have heard that the Pancha Bhoothas are most vibrant here..Want to go in and stand inside the ruined Garbha Griha with the lost (to humans) Idol ; but the mystic force still vibrant there !! May be that's why the Siva Lingas are down below, as Siva wishes to keep a low profile ( I am in love with that Cosmic Dancer...)

Dear Socrates,
I heard of these stories ,about the Pandas very often .Now the temple admistration has appointed one of the most able IAS Officer of Orissa , Mr Suresh Mohapatra. Now He is trying his best to civilize these panda's by introducing some programs like personality development, teaching them to used good language (They are really horrible in that ,even we too get shiver listening them), good manners and giving them thoughts to think beyond their community.....I believe in this civil servant very much and he can do wonders....Let's hope for the best.
Thanks for liking the post....

Swayamprava,
Nice blog...
I'm not a much of a temple goer. Being a south Indian have never been to Tirupathi either. I know my family considers it balsphemy ...but, that's how it is with me... But, I'm sure this temple must be having some beautiful architecture and art. Temples in India re indeed beautiful. But, my gripe is the temple culture followed by the poojaris with their ever extended arms, as if in perpetual begging.
Anyways, what did interest me in your blog are the sarees from orissa you mentioned - bomkai, sonpuri pata. I collect sarees from different regions of India. So, I immediately googled it and found some lovely ones and ended up buying two...I can't wait to wear them. Now, that summer is here....I'm going to have a feast!!
Thanks Swayam....
